Coconut tree is arguably the most useful tree for humans in the world. Why is that? It’s because the tree itself is a food factory, a powerhouse, a supplier of raw materials to shelter, and many more. As of 21st century, coconut trees have accomplished to touch billions of lives in the world with its products. The internet says coconut kernel products are ones that have the highest demand in the world – along with products based on coconut ekels, fibers, shells etc.
In Sri Lanka, coconut cultivation has a paramount place among local communities and exporters due to the very reason why it’s famous around the world. After Indonesia, Philippines, and India – Sri Lanka takes the fourth player as the largest coconut exporter in the world. In 2021 alone, the country has grossed $836 million from coconut products. From that $836 million, about $360 million came from the exports to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, and Germany. It’s apparent that the demand for Sri Lankan products is growing in the western world.
