Cloves

They appear as brownish flowery buds of clove trees. Famous for its exquisite fragrance and strong taste. Clove is also recognized as a herb, and it is being used for a lot of medicinal purposes. Also, cloves are being used to make clove oil, which can be a good flavouring ingredient for a wide range of curries and dishes.

According to history, Cloves were first traded by Arabs for centuries until the Portuguese took it over in the renaissance period. It is believed that cloves were initially introduced to Sri Lanka by Arabs as the country was a prominent destination in the world’s spice trade. However, as the time progressed through the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, the clove trade went to the hands of the Dutch, French, and British since they executed massive cultivation in their colonies.
