Turmeric is one of the most essential spices that can be found in kitchens – especially in countries like Sri Lanka. It is being used as powder when it comes to cooking – that can be used to add a beautiful color and a savory taste with an aroma unique to itself – to curries made using dhal, meat, fish, vegetables such as pumpkin, cucumber etc.
To make tamarind powder, first – the roots of tamarind plants should be well washed and dried on mats for a few days or weeks under bright sunlight. Then after they get grinded and stored in bottles or packets as powder.
Although turmeric is mainly considered as a spice, it is being used as a herb in ayurveda and Sinhala traditional medicine as well.
